The Green Miles started to create awareness among the general public for the problems of our oceans. In addition, Arjen and Florian want to inspire people to interact with the world and the oceans in a green way. Therefore they sailed around the world on a limited budget, as sustainable as possible over a period of just under two years The Green Miles is collaborating with various prominent development organizations in the field of climate change and the protection of the oceans.
Hereby un update on our Green Miles travellers Florian Dirkse en Arjen van Eijk! In December 2008 the adventurous documentary makers started their sailing trip to create awareness among the general public for the problems of our oceans. In addition, The Green Miles wants to inspire people to interact with the world and the oceans in a green way. The crew of The Green Miles sails therefore around the world on a limited budget and as sustainable as possible over a period of two years. And it’s going very well! The boys just arrived in Tonga, an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean. National Geographic showed interest in their documentary so good news for their green message!

Kuyichi is always looking out for innovative solutions to design a greener, sustainable world.

Like this one, we bumped in earlier!

As Kuyichi HQ is located in the green Dutch town of Haarlem, most of our employees come around by bike.

Now for the hardcore-bikers, there's the dual bike JANO, a bicycle built for lively and spirited biking, for fitness or simply for the daily ride to the office.

Austrian desgin student Roland Kaufmann, built this plywooden designer bike, inspired on his love for wooden kayaks!

In Holland, we all know the first bikes we're built from wood. Since then, most are made of steel nowadays. The funnier, to see a foreigner that reintroduces this recycle-wood solution for such an elemental thing as the bike.

check the storage space for your handbag – inside the wooden frame!
Cool. Keep the Style_Conscious!

Get the facts

Wood is...
up to 10 times stiffer than fibreglass
nearly 6 times stiffer than a kevlar/epoxy composite

Technical specs of JANO

* plywood frame
* maintainance free belt drive system
* hub gear shift
* low resistance hub dynamo
* frame integrated head- and rear lights [leds]
* attachable frame bag and luggage carrier
* optional mudguardsand

Read the full review at Treehugger's, or check the designer's homepage here.

Yahoo! has launched a new initiative; Yahoo! Green is an online platform...

where consumers and individuals find information & education on what they can do to stop climate changes.

Although their website certainly won't win the Webby award for the most outstanding web design, it serves easy-to-read consumer information, on how you can simply make huge changes at home to cut-down energy loss.

"Want to help stop global warming? If we all take a few simple steps to create less greenhouse gases, we can reduce the effects of climate change. Choose some actions that fit your lifestyle."

Check out the site to get inspired for some extremely simple tips on how to Green Your Lighting, Your Work and even Green Your Coffee and Tea!

And don't forget to pay a visit to their This Green House, a virtual home to represent the average American household. Many useful tips for in and around the house are provided; “Buy vintage, organic, or repurpose your old clothing”!

On Yahoo!'s Green website, you'll find a lot of news, interviews, researches and made-easy information to reach the average (un)conscious consumer; and with their 500 million users worldwide, that could just work out fine!

And that's not all, since Yahoo! pledged last month, to cut-down their company's CO2 emissions drastically, by the year's end.

Now, let's wait for more big corporations to follow, then soon it'll be an expectation, not an exception, to live the organic & conscious life style!
