Kuyichi proudly presents: Deposit denim

Yesterday evening we presented our latest sustainable recycle project: "Deposit Denim" in the Redlight fashion district Amsterdam.

For some time Kuyichi has been using recycled cotton and PET bottles in it's collections, as well as other sustainable materials, also with a lower ecological footprint, like hemp and tencel. From spring 2013 we're are taking it to the next level. Across Europe, almost 6 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away each year, with only a quarter going to charities or being reused. Clearly something has to change!

What is Deposit denim and how does it work?

The consumer brings their old jeans to the store and gets 10 euro discount on a gorgeous new pair of Kuyichi jeans.

Kuyichi will ensure that all legs of jeans that are collected are shredded, re-spun into new yarn, mixed with new sustainable yarns, and re-created into new gorgeous-looking Kuyichi jeans, ready for a new ride. The shorts of jeans that we collect, will be sold and the profit will be donated for charity.

When does it start and where can i find more information?

Denim Deposit will start on the 23th of May, for now only in the Netherlands.  Check out the website for more information about Deposit Denim and the affiliated stores.

The ocean cleanup

As you know Kuyichi loves sustainable concepts. What about this amazing concept invented by the 18-year-old Boyan Slat. He came up with an idea that may be able to remove vast amounts of plastics from the oceans.  Bojan’s idea is to invent a boat with floating booms instead of nets so much larger areas can be covered. So even the smalles particles will be diverted and extracted. To realise this amazing invention Boyan and his global team are looking for a research budget. On the website  or the facebook page you can find more information about this innovative project and you have the possibility to make a donation untill the 6th of May.

Kuyichi meets Jonathan Jeremiah

Last Saturday, after a complete sold out concert at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, Kuyichi had the honor to meet & greet with the great sing and song writer Mr. Jeremiah himself! Kuyichi met with Jonathan almost 1.5 year ago at a small private concert in Amsterdam. Right after he mentioned he liked the jeans that one of our team members was wearing we promised him his first organic Kuyichi jeans. Ever since we stayed in touch and he kept wearing the jeans as he loved our product and story. Kuyichi invited Grazia to meet Jonathan and asked him what he thinks about sustainability and our collaboration. Check out Grazia and Sportswear International to know more!

Jonathan Jeremiah is touring true Europe, he will visit the Netherlands again this summer but also the really cool festival Rock Werchter in Belgium.
