The city of Rotterdam recently released a bevy of gorgeous green designs for a new mixed-use city hall building that will become “the most sustainable in The Netherlands”. The city challenged designers, like Claus en Kaan Architecten and Oma, to create something spectacular, something that will be super energy efficient. Also the use of sustainable materials, be useful for various people and events, generate its own energy, recycle and take out its own trash. Well, that might be a bit exaggerated but it sounds good! Here's on idea. For more designs check: Inhabitat

Since it's a trend for magazines to feature a GREEN ISSUE at least once a year, the trend has hit the Dutch news stands this month as well!

The Dutch edition of ELLE magazine presented it's already second annual green issue. A conscious issue that guides its readers to the green side of life.

ELLE's way to show green & glossy; a great team it is! “we share one planet, and one responsibility”.

And in any green lifestyle-guide Kuyichi's denim can't be missed. Although we have had numerous covering articles in ELLE- & alike magazines so far, this time our presence is set primarily to a showcase of our collections.

You'll find them throughout the various photo shoots inside the magazine. Not just for our contemporary styling, ELLE's stylists know their ways to our showroom very well!

YOI :: Your Own Identity
Another nice article, is the revealing interview with the Dutch princess of the “Hiphonest® Lifestyle”!

Annouk Post, founder of the conscious aware YOI Foundation that promotes the Hiphonest lifestyle.

She tells us about her decisions to start living the eco-luxury lifestyle. While we get an inside view of what intimate and eco-fashion treasures her wardrobe closet reveals. It's clear she's an expert, while she informs us about her favourites in eco-luxury.

When asked for her motivation to start living the Hiphonest lifestyle, she tells it was the story behind Kuyichi, that inspired her to set up the YOI foundation!

Instead of leaving the industry behind because of the unfair circumstances, she decided -like Kuyichi- to make the difference herself, by giving the good example & spreading positivism! YOI means GOOD in Kanji Chinese.

Furthermore, ELLE's green issue is all about eco awareness & health for the environment.

And if you're really interested, you can find the Making of the Cover, right here.

Or read more on the YOI foundation at their website: www.yoi.nu

This week is TV Turnoff Week 2007, another initiative by the creatives of adbusters.org.

“The idea is simple: take your TV, your DVD player, your video iPod, your XBOX 360, your laptop, your PSP, and say goodbye to them all for seven days”!

Challenge yourself, and shake up your relationship with passive entertainment by joining the movement until the 29th of April!

This may sound a bit odd, but there's a whole philosophy behind it, that encourages us consumers, to become more aware of our ever-increasing media usage.

“It’s all about saying no to being bombarded with unwelcome and unhealthy commercial messages and to the democratic deficit that results. And it's about challenging the heavily distorted reflection of the world that we see on the screen, a reflection that is keeping us ill-informed and unaware of the very real political and environmental crises that we all currently face”.

Just after the start of the new year, we informed you about another of their international campaigns, ‘Slow Down Week 2007’, last January 14-20. And in November, like every year, you can expect their oldest social critical action: 'Buy Nothing Day'.

The exhibition, called EcoEdit is a showcase of "101 beautiful, innovative but environmentally friendly designs - from the worlds of architecture, beauty, fashion, food, packaging, product design, transport and travel - from all over the world.”

Kuyichi is featured amongst other fair trade and eco-conscious fashion brands, like Edun, American Apparel, and even Armani Jeans.

Wallpaper* takes Kuyichi's efforts for a greener & more sustainable lifestyle to another level, by calling it "the most important debate in contemporary design".

The exhibition is an attempt to answer the questions: "Can environmentally friendly design be good design? Or rather, can design that doesn't have environmental impact as a key concern ever be considered good design?". It seems the answer is a resounding YES! “This is a global concern and we have created a truly global experience.”

During the preparation process of the eco-exhibition, Wallpaper* realised it would be best to be featured online, instead of flying the designs around the world, or sending photographers off to shoot them. Some outstanding illustrations instead, make sure that Wallpaper* leaves virtually no carbon footprint behind in the production of this exhibition.

Enjoy Wallpaper*'s EcoEdit at best view, at 1024 x 768 pixels, or higher.

According to Wallpaper*, there is a sense of purity and integrity consistent throughout their selection. Many of the featured creators are individual pioneers or small businesses.
But there are also a growing number of more powerful brands, for whom becoming green is, arguably, a more difficult proposition, that are emerging strong and steadfast in this field.

Finally, the overriding message from Wallpaper*'s EcoEdit is that creativity and conscience work exceptionally well together. “Eco-chic is about indulgence and pleasure as well as getting to grips with some of the world's bigger issues. One of the most pleasing elements of researching all 101 exhibits, was seeing how the addition of eco credentials to good design resulted in concepts that worked even harder."

We feel honoured to be part of Wallpaper*'s EcoEdit exhibition for sustainable design!

Eco-brilliance is flourishing. Enjoy the show.

a series of gatherings about the world.
about the possible worlds that can support more
luminous life in the future. It will take place in and around
Brussels from the 27th of April till the 5th of May 2007.

With these events, the interdisciplinary laboratory [Æ’oam] calls upon the creative sector to enrich the public debate around environmental sustainability, ethical living and eco-technology.

Luminous Green consists of a symposium, an expert gathering, a hands-on workshop and an open lab.

Luminous Green are gatherings of experts and enthusiasts; people capable of dreaming of, cultivating and inhabiting a luminous green world. People who consider themselves creative thinkers, doers and makers.

People who deploy their creativity and imagination to transform currently unsustainable practices in their own fields and in the world at large. Luminous Green will give them an opportunity to influence and inspire their friends, colleagues, peers, audiences and clients.

Earth Day – April 22, 2007
A Call for Action on Climate Change

Since 1970, every year it's time for Earth Day.
Created to spark a revolution against environmental abuse, the organizers have always refused to take NO for an answer. Neither should we all!

Global warming is real and we're part of the problem. “Now, we need to become part of the solution”, as the website states.
Earth Day is meant as a day to ask attention for, and promote environmental citizenship!
Around the globe, people are teaming up to take action by giving the good example to others.

Yet in the first year, 20 million Americans stepped out into the sunshine for peaceful demonstrations to claim environmental reform. This continuing, annual massive action, has lead to more organised, and more relaxing events in the new millennium!

So, get out and take this great opportunity to relax, enjoy and celebrate how marvelous our planet really is! For example on one of the free outdoor concerts, like GREEN APPLE FESTIVAL in the USA.

Or take part of an event closer to KUYICHI HQ: spend your Sunday at this outdoor festival in Arnhem, or get into action by cycling the Dutch lowlands, while getting information on the themes: food production & agriculture.

Check for your local events at the global website, or read the thumbs-up coverage on Earth Day, by Treehugger! They also feature some helpful, clear 'How To Green Guides'!

After Madonna, it's now Kylie Minogue that joins H&M to promote their products!

And as Kylie is more known for her eco_friendly lifestyle then Madonna, it's not surprising us that H&M takes the opportunity to do good, while selling their latest beachwear collection!

10 per cent of all sales of the beachwear collection, called ‘H&M Loves Kylie', is being donated to WaterAid, an international charity with a focus on Ending Water Poverty.

WaterAid’s Chief Barbara Frost, states at Ecorazzi's website that every £15 raised will be enough to help one person gain access to a sustainable supply of clean water, adequate sanitation and basic hygiene education.” So that will make sense, with a 15-item collection, being sold world wide!

We are very pleased to see that more major companies, like H&M are taking more serious, their corporate social responsibility!
America's Cinderella's are getting ready for the annual Prom, and as America is turning greener then ever, the eco-friendly prom is in!

The earth-friendlier prom dress finds it's way to teenagers, as well because it's much cheaper than the usual spent 500 dollar for fashion pieces worn on average for just one evening.

Although the preparation for the annual promenade dance party, held at the end of the high school academic year, is pretty competitive, and not everyone is capable of arriving in a Hummer, and wearing Gucci.

Yet prom doesn't have to be detrimental to both the environment and parents' chequebooks.
"You can be environmentally aware without sacrificing style for it," says co-designer Wendy Traas of Canada-based Passenger Pigeon, another eco-friendly fashion brand.

"We are eco chic – a new subsection of the environmental movement. ...Our clothing fits in with all of the other stylish items, we just happen to have more of an environmentally responsible product."

Passenger Pigeon's little black prom dress is made of 100 per cent bamboo and the lining is 100 per cent silk, the material is biodegradable. Another great aspect of natural fabrics is that they let the skin breath so dancing becomes, well, no sweat.

For the girl who still wants a gown instead of the more practical cocktail-length dress, try vintage. It not only guarantees that nobody else will be wearing the same outfit, but offers original and handmade pieces. Vintage stores also offer rare hair accessories, shoes and evening bags at a fraction of the cost of newer items.

Now there's only one milestone left to take: getting the real eco-Cinderella's to arrive in a pumpkin at the ball!

Read more tips for eco-friendly shopping for the prom, or read the source-article at Treehugger's.
