Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) and the Dutch ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) launched a competition in token of the international Year of Biodiversity; The Green Fashion Competition. Yesterday it was the final where 8 designers showed their collection. Winner of 25.000 euro was Dutch designer Elsien Gringhuis. Second winner was OAT (15.000 euro) for their biodegradable sneaker collection. Congratulations! All the collections will be presented at the Nukuhiva store in Amsterdam.
Here a few impressions from other contestants like Winde Rienstra:
"Sewing the seeds for the future of fashion". The Green Fashion Competition aims to create the foundation for a fashion industry that is produced in a manner wherein biodiversity is preserved. The only way in which this can be done is when entrepreneurs are able to find a balance between the economical, ecological and social impact of their ideas; a balance between People, Planet and Profit. Biodiversity creates clean water, fertile grounds and a stable climate. It also produces food and building materials for residencies, clothing, fuel and medication. Mankind's consumption of raw materials and modern production techniques are having an extremely destructive effect on the world's biodiversity. Examples of this are the unaccountable amounts of water wasted in many production techniques, the chemicals used in dyes and other treatments that pollute the environment, and the extent to which large scale agriculture (eg cotton fields) destroy habitats. The Green Fashion Competition, held in Amsterdam, will provide the entrepreneurial talents within the Dutch fashion industry with coaching, support, an international platform and sizeable financial aid for launching their ideas. Kuyichi will join and coach young talent!

Strawberry Earth presents the first Dutch environmental film festival: Strawberry Earth at the Movies! Twelve of the latest and best films with an environmental theme are shown on June 5 and 6.
Several (world) premieres, Q&As with international directors and an after party with awesome DJs make the event complete. This all takes place at The Ketelhuis cinema in Amsterdam.
Strawberry Earth at the Movies will be opened by minister Jacqueline Cramer and alderman Marijke Vos on the 5th of June - World Environmental Day. French movie HOME - by director and photographer Yann Arthus-Betrand and Luc Besson - will have its world premiere this night. Next to that, the curators bring the English hit The Age of Stupid and its director Franny Armstrong to The Ketelhuis.
All Strawberry Earth events contribute directly to a greener world. The Ketelhuis save up 100% of the festival's profit to make their cinema eco-friendlier. Besides that, they also donate their savings on the energy bill to Greenpeace - for the next ten years! Of course, Kuyichi will be there to support this great event. You can check out movie trailers in the Kuyichi Van on the 6th of June.
On top of that, you also have the chance to win this recycled PET Kuyichi jacket!
This jacket is made out of 25 recycled plastic bottles. That's what we call reducing the waste belt in style! Click here for the complete festival programme.
